Do Not Disturb seemed pretty typical until we stumbled upon the unusual tech-driven interactions. Breakout Games Nashville needs to better integrate the gameplay with the technology and the story in order to create puzzle flow. However, they delivered some neat and unexpected moments.Breakout Games Nashville - Do Not Disturb [Review] - Room

A serial killer had struck fear into the citizens of Breakout City. We had tracked him down to a motel room just outside of town, but it was a trap. We would have to successfully play his game to escape and save ourselves.

Do Not Disturb was a rundown studio hotel room. It was an unusual space because it had all of the parts that make up a hotel room, but it didn’t really feel like any hotel room I’ve ever seen. It wasn’t an inspiring location. Nevertheless, it looked all right, even when it didn’t quite feel realistic.

Breakout Games Nashville followed standard escape room design norms. There was a bit of searching. The gameplay focused on puzzling and determining how to connect the items found within the space.

The intrigue of Do Not Disturb came from a handful of unusual and unexpected interactions.

Do Not Disturb included some well-hidden components. In a simple set, there wasn’t much to find, and finding these was particularly enjoyable.

Breakout Games surprised us with the tech-driven opens in this seemingly basic hotel setting. We especially liked when standard appliances gave way to puzzles.

We’ve seen one escape room trope clued in many different ways, but never as Breakout Games clued it in this escape room. It was an interesting puzzle for this input mechanism.

The set was sufficient, but it didn’t add excitement or intensity to Do Not Disturb.

There were some strange and distracting red herrings in Do Not Disturb.

We continually (and unknowingly) solved puzzles out of order because earlier actions took effect later in the game, after another puzzle triggered something else. We’d futz with a puzzle, abandon it assuming we’d solved it incorrectly, only to have an open trigger much later, as if by magic, when in fact, it was triggering based on something we’d worked on previously. This happened repeatedly and confused us throughout the entire experience. At one point two or three solves piled up on one another and the room seemed like it was going crazy as it caught up. This was odd, to say the least.

Do Not Disturb never flowed. In part this was do to the aforementioned timed triggers. In part, it was due to the random assortment of escape room-y puzzles packed into this space. They didn’t tell a story, so they never linked from one to the next. In this way, the puzzles weren’t entirely satisfying.

There is parking out front. We enjoyed The Tin Roof 2, especially their signature sandwich.
